Join us Tuesday, September 2 at 6:30 for the gallery opening of pastel artist Francois Lamothe. Francois is a self-taught artist, with the help of an occasional seminar. He is a member of the Pastel Painters of Maine, and his work will be on display for the month of September. Refreshments will be provided, and the artist will speak about his work.

A new twist on our Chillax program, Random Fandom Fridays will begin in September and be held monthly. This program is for students in fifth grade and up, and will focus on a new fandom each month. There will be games, snacks, a themed craft, and lots of fun! This month we will be celebrating Divergent!

Join us for the first of two programs designed to explore various elements of the Muslim culture. We will view the film Prince Among Slaves and then follow the film with a facilitated discussion with Reza Jalali, a human rights and Muslim scholar. He was raised in Iran as a Kurd and in 1985 he moved to Maine where he became the Muslim Chaplain at Bates College. This program will be held at the Wells High School Auditorium, and is co-sponsored by Friends of the Wells Public Library, Wells-Ogunquit Adult Education program, and the Maine Humanities Council.

Money in Politics: Democracy's Crisis in Confidence will be the subject of a non-partisan program featuring B.J. McCollister from the non-profit, Maine Citizens for Clean Elections. Mr. McCollister will speak about the threat of money in politics, upcoming state and federal legislation, and lead a discussion to determine how the voice of the mill worker is heard as clearly as the voice of the CEO. This is the first program in our Fall Political Series.

The Wells Public Library presents a special Halloween Lunch and Learn! We’ll be "treated” to the professionally adapted audio program of Maine Author, Tim Caverly’s book, An Allagash Haunting-A Radio Classic. Join us for this entertaining and spooky story of 10 year old Olivia’s canoe trip down the Allagash as she finds herself alone in the remote Maine woods in perhaps the worst storm ever! Listeners will hear snapping campfires, ghostly music, the haunting call of a loon as over 120 scenic and historic pictures of the Maine woods are shown.
